Sun, Storytelling and Strategy

This morning's meeting sparked a great discussion on sales pitches - what works, what doesn't, and how the process has evolved. It reminded me of that classic Bill and Ted-style optimism - "If you invite them, they will come". The idea that showing up, talking about what you do, and hoping it sticks might have worked once.

But in today’s landscape - it takes more

Much like recruitment, the pitch process has evolved. Businesses are no longer just evaluating a solution; they’re evaluating you—your credibility, passion, and ability to build trust.

So, how do we adapt?

We need to rethink how we engage, how we persuade, and how we guide our prospect toward a decision. A great pitch isn't just a transaction - it's a story, one where the potential client sees themselves in the narrative, with their challenges, aspirations, and goals woven into the journey.

Success starts with resonance —understanding the potential client's world before saying a word. Every interaction should feel like the beginning of a compelling story, where the potential client recognizes their current obstacles and sees a clear path forward. We should lead with insights that spark new thinking, revealing possibilities they hadn’t considered. And most importantly, we craft an authentic narrative, taking them on a journey that culminates in the right solution—one where all roads lead to you.

We also shouldn't underestimate the power of likeability - that people buy from those they like and trust. That trust isn’t built through just a polished pitch; it comes from listening, asking the right questions, and delivering a solution that resonates. Whether it’s through storytelling, adaptability, or leveraging technology smartly to illustrate a capability, the best pitches feel like conversations, not presentations.

Let’s connect

In today’s world, the difference isn’t just what we say—it’s how we say it, and who is saying it. The voices that inspire confidence, spark connection, and build trust are the ones that win.
